USPCN thanks its friends and supporters for responding so quickly to an action alert regarding the politically-motivated arrest of our dear comrade, Dr. Alie Kabba, an African Muslim from Sierra Leone, who is former Executive Director of the Chicago-based United African Organization (UAO), and former board president of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR).

Alie has consistently called for the liberation of Palestine as a speaker and participant in dozens of our protests in Chicago over many years, and a few hours ago, the Sierra Leone Telegraph reported that Alie had finally been freed on bail.

He had recently moved back to Sierra Leone, and announced that he would be running for president there in 2017.  After giving a radio interview about his candidacy a few weeks ago, he was arrested and spent much of the holidays in prison.  Activists in Sierra Leone and the U.S. immediately began disseminating this petition to Free Dr. Alie Kabba, and USPCN joined the campaign to #FreeAlieKabba by writing that Alie “is a political prisoner, a prisoner of conscience, and needs our support.”

We are proud to have stood with Alie, a stalwart and principled leader in the African, Black, immigrant, and social justice communities of Chicagoland.  We are happy that he is FREE!
