Please join us for the launch of an exciting new website, a virtual exhibit celebrating art by incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people in Palestine and the U.S.
Ata Khattab, lead choreographer and dabke instructor at El Funoun Palestinian Dabke Troupe, was dragged from his home in Palestine on February 2nd, and imprisoned at the notorious Al-Moscobiyeh interrogation center until last week, when USPCN received word that he had fallen ill.
International, Palestinian, and other health and human rights institutions have been demanding for over a year that Israel better protect Palestinian political prisoners from the coronavirus and other health problems in its prisons, but instead, as Amira Haas reported in Haaretz back in November, “Israel’s High Court rejected two petitions urging the adoption of available methods that could reduce coronavirus infection among Palestinian prisoners.”
In Al-Moscobiyeh, prisoners spend almost every minute of their days in isolation or solitary confinement. It is an interrogation center, where prisoners may also be subjected to torture, so the Israelis do not allow the Palestinians there to fraternize with others. This is why we believe that Ata was infected by one of the criminal Israeli interrogators.
Either way, Ata’s health is in jeopardy, and he has been moved to a hospital in Ramleh Prison, so it is even more imperative for all to take action NOW and sign our petition to #FreeAtaKhattab.
Also please be on the lookout for our legislative action alert early next week, in which we will be asking everyone in the U.S. to contact their elected officials in DC to intervene on Ata’s behalf.
