Dear Hady Amr,
I am writing to you in regards to the six Palestinian human rights organizations that have been unjustly designated as “terrorist” organizations by the Israeli defense minister Benny Gantz on October 19th 2021. The six Palestinian NGOs – Addameer, Al Haq, The Bisan Center, Defense for Children International – Palestine, the Union of Agricultural Workers Committee, and the Union of Palestinian Women’s Committees provide invaluable services to a wide range of Palestinian people defending them from the criminal abuses of the Israeli apartheid government.
The U.S. State Department’s silence on this issue signals to the Israeli government that they can continue to criminalize and oppress human rights workers with impunity. As Israel’s principle political and economic supporter, the United States has a unique responsibility to speak out against this unjust action. Therefore, I am calling on you to release an official statement on behalf of the (US State Department/ US State Department’s Bureau of Near East Affairs) condemning the designation by the Israeli defense ministry and affirming the right of Palestinian NGO’s to work to preserve the internally recognized rights of the Palestinian people.
