On September 23rd, 2021, U.S. Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, along with other pro-Israel Democrats, introduced HR 5344, the Two State Solution Act, after months of pressure by her constituents. The Two State Solution act maintains the status quo and does not address the fundamental issue of Israeli occupation and colonization. After the Unity Uprising, the protests and resistance that sparked in the entirety of Palestine this past May, USPCN mobilized many of Schakowsky’s constituents to express that we have had enough of so-called progressives like her excluding Palestinian human rights in their platforms, and demand that she endorse HR 2590, the Palestinian Children and Families Act. This legislation directly reflects realities on the ground by withholding U.S. aid to Israel that would be used to imprison and torture Palestinian children; steal and destroy Palestinian homes and property; or further annex Palestinian land.

USPCN’s direct actions in support of HR 2590, which include call-in days, sit-ins, and other protests, have fallen on deaf ears. Schakowsky has instead endorsed HR5344 in an attempt to deflect pressure from her constituents.

One thing is clear, our pressure is working! So, we ask all of our members and supporters to call Schakowsky’s office on Thursday, October 14th, and join our social media storm the same day from 11 AM to 1 PM CT, and demand that she sponsor HR 2590!

Representative @JanSchakowsky, signed on to a new bill into congress – HR5344: Two State Solution Act. This bill claims that it will accelerate plans for a “peace process” between Israel and Palestine, meaning a two state solution. Which does not hold Israel accountable for its everyday human rights violations and war crimes. Jan Schakowsky’s everyday choice in remaining silent on the Palestinian cause despite our persistence in demanding her to speak up and sign onto #HR2590 is shameful. Her complacency on Palestinian struggle and suffering means that she does NOT care for justice.

HR2590, The Palestinian Children and Families Act is a step in the right direction. It is a bill put in place to hold Israel accountable in the way it uses U.S. dollars to further occupy and oppress the Palestinian people. It states that Israel will not be able to use U.S. aid to imprison and torture Palestinian children; steal and destroy Palestinian homes and property; or further annex Palestinian land.
