USPCN & partners’ toolkit to demand Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky #StandWithThe6 and ALL Palestinians!

On October 22nd, 2021, Benny Gantz, Israel Defense Minister, designated six Palestinian civil society groups as “terrorist” organizations. The six organizations, whom are long time partners of USPCN, are Al-Haq, a human rights organization; Defense for Children International-Palestine, a children’s rights and advocacy group; Addameer, a prisoners’ support group; Union of Palestinian Women’s Committee; Union of Agricultural Workers Committee; and Bisan Center for Research and Development.

These organizations have existed for decades, but they are not being attacked and criminalized as a desperate attempt by Israel to stop human rights organizations that expose Israel for what it is: A racist, apartheid, and settler state.

In response to designation, many human rights organizations and UN officials condemned the actions taken by Israel to silence any critics and human rights defenders. In the U.S., progressive representative spoke out against it. Congresswoman Betty McCollum went a step ahead and introduced to the House #HR751, a a resolution that condemns Israel’s designation. So far, 10 members of congress have signed on to it. Representative Jan Schakowsky of Illinois’ 9th district, a long time “progressive” and an immigrant rights champion, has been silent on the issue.

US Palestinian Community Network, constituents, and allies have been, for months, demanding Jan Schakowsky sign onto congresswoman’s Betty McCollum’s other bill, The Palestinian Children and Families Act, or #HR2590. The bill was, for a long time, the ONLY bill in congress that supports Palestinian human rights. It conditions aid to Israel as long as they are imprisoning Palestinian children, demolishing Palestinians’ homes, and annexing Palestinian land.

Now, join us as we demand that Jan Schakowksy does the right thing: SIGN ONTO BOTH OF THESE BILLS IMMEDIATELY! Schakowsky cannot claim she is a progressive and be silent on the repression of Palestinians and Israel’s daily human rights violation and war crimes!

Answering the call of the six Palestinian human rights organizations that were recently designated as “terrorist” organizations, U.S. Palestinian Community Network (USPCN)-Chicago chapter and partners are demanding that Congresswoman @JanSchakowsky sign on to #HR751, Condemning Israel for Designation of Palestinian Human Rights Groups as “Terrorist” Organizations, and #HR2590, the Palestinian Children and Families Act.

Just recently, Israel killed another Palestinian child, 13-year-old Muhammad Daadas, in cold blood in Nablus. And Israel still holds FIVE hunger-striking Palestinian political prisoners under administrative detention, two of whom have been on hunger strike for longer than 100 days. The apartheid state also recently destroyed an Arab cemetery to build an amusement park for its Israeli settlers.

By staying silent on this issue and not taking any action, @JanSchakowsky is complicit in the oppression of Palestinians! We say: enough is enough, Schakowsky! If you claim to be a progressive, then ACT like one!
